FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wisconsin Community Mental Health Counseling Centers Hosts National Anxiety Disorders Day, Wednesday, May 7, 2003

Every year, over 38 million Americans suffer from anxiety and depressive disorders.  These medical illnesses do not discriminate and affect people of all races, ages and economic backgrounds. Many highly successful businessmen, professionals, and even Hollywood stars can be incapacitated by anxiety and depression.  Great stars such as Naomi Judd, Donny Osmond, Marc Sommers, and Kim Bassinger, have known the enormous suffering that anxiety and depression can bring. They have also experienced the tremendous benefits of receiving effective treatment. That is why these stars have chosen to speak about their illnesses, in the hope that their experiences will help fellow sufferers seek treatment.

Why do people continue to suffer alone with anxious and depressed feelings?  Sometimes symptoms of anxiety and depression will be mistaken for another medical illness and go undiagnosed, sometimes people are ashamed or afraid, and sometimes people dont know enough about anxiety and depressive disorders to put a name to the feelings and symptoms they have.  National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day is a program for individuals to get answers to these puzzling problems.

To help individuals learn about anxiety disorders, their symptoms and effective treatments, Wisconsin Community Mental Health Counseling Centers will hold a FREE program and screening on May 7, 2003 as part of National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day.  The program includes receiving information about anxiety disorders, and other mental illnesses, completing a screening questionnaire, meeting a mental health professional to review the questionnaire and receiving a referral if necessary.
